| Project | Rescue, Reclaim and Restore: 3 Rs of Environmental Education |
| Description | Commanding an encompassing Rocky Mountain panorama, Dr. E.W. Coffin Elementary School has undertaken an ambitious prairie reclamation and restoration project in collaboration with The City of Calgary, Natural Areas. Together, the sandstone Prairie Amphitheatre in Whispering Woods Natural Area and the Centennial Natureground featuring rescued plants and site-sustainable species native to our province, provide students and the public with an innovative outdoor learning environment. With more than a decade of integrated projects, environmental studies have become implicitly connected to all areas of learning at Dr. Coffin School. Supported by numerous external partnerships and financial sponsors, this school has steadfastly nurtured a sense of pride and environmental consciousness in students, parents and community. Through local stewardship, Dr. Coffin School's ongoing holistic approach to environmental education has mobilized the community into action. By continually presenting concrete opportunities for involvement, this extraordinary little school is sustaining, reinforcing and expanding a global environmental attentiveness. |
