ConocoPhillips to be First Emerald Leader

February 26, 2007 (Edmonton) – The Alberta Emerald Foundation announced today its first “Emerald Leader”: ConocoPhillips.

“ConocoPhillips, as one of the Foundation’s largest corporate supporters, is demonstrating true leadership in making environmental excellence an everyday occurrence,” says Ron Kruhlak, Chair of the Resource Development Committee while also noting that the Foundation looks forward to having other supporters join at the Emerald Leader level.

"ConocoPhillips is proud to step forward as an Emerald leader to support the Alberta Emerald Foundation and their environmental stewardship values. Like the Alberta Emerald Foundation we encourage environmental awareness, collaboration and innovation to meet challenges, and environmental leadership. ConocoPhillips supports environmental initiatives within the Industry, schools and local communities," Barbara Simic, Senior Advisor, Community Investment.

Emerald Leaders pledge a minimum $100,000 over three years. The funds are used to enhance the Emerald Awards, the Foundation’s premier event to recognize and celebrate environmental excellence in Alberta; to develop new programs to encourage youth involvement and further raise awareness of environmental excellence in Alberta; and to build AEF’s sustainability.
